Job Description - Mechanical Engineer

Position: Mechanical Engineer 

 

Position Description:

Welcome to the R&D Engineering Team at Metrom Rail! We are currently looking for engineers who are versatile, enthusiastic, highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented environment. 

The Mechanical Engineer will design and deliver embedded train control systems. The candidate will work as part of the hardware, electronics, and software development team to develop safety products for rail applications. This individual will be responsible for designing all facets of mechanical assemblies for railroad control systems, including CNC metal components, molded plastic components, electronics enclosures, cabling, thermal management, vibration / shock resistance, weatherproofing, structural tower components, weldments and optimization for cost / manufacturing / installation. 

Must have or be qualified to attain a valid US Passport, no criminal record that would affect travel to Canada and pass a background check for railroad contractor ID card (erailsafe)

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Testing and documenting performance of prototype sensor systems
  • Design and documentation of components and assemblies
  • This position may require periodic local travel, with occasional travel to various locations in North America.  (A passport may be required).   
  • Railroad safety training will be provided and is required (including a background check).

 

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with materials
  • Competency in all Microsoft Office tools
  • Competency with SolidWorks®
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics
  • Experience with molded plastic parts and CNC machined components
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or equivalent
